Digitalized Auditing : Implementation of digital systems in the auditing industry (English)
Abstract [sv]

I denna kvalitativa studie undersöks digitaliseringen i revisionsbranschen.

Abstract [en]

This qualitative study examines digitalization in the audit industry. Digital tools, systems and AI bring both opportunities and risks to audit quality. One of the biggest risks is that reliance on technology can lead to shortcomings in the audit if the systems do not work as they should or if they are not configured correctly. There is a concern that the auditor relies too much on digital tools, which can result in important aspects of the audit being overlooked. Previous studies show that acceptance of digital tools and systems is low among users. While the conclusion of this study shows that acceptance of digital work tools is generally positive among auditors, although there is resistance from some clients and smaller firms, which is often due to costs and a generational issue. Previous research shows that the audit industry lags behind in the use of digital tools compared to other industries, this study also confirms this partly due to the legislation that governs the business and the complexity that comes with management auditing in the Swedish market. Many auditors have expressed that there is a lack of integrated systems that can connect different data sources, which complicates the work and hinders efficiency. Despite these challenges, the pandemic Covid -19 has driven digitalization, and there is an increased demand for modern, user-friendly systems that can facilitate the audit process. The potential for more automation and integration of digital tools exists, which can lead to a more analytical and quality-focused audit process. It is crucial that new systems are approved by relevant authorities to ensure quality and efficiency in audit work. Digital tools, systems and AI offer great opportunities to improve audit quality, the requirement is that their implementation is carefully considered by risks and that there is a willingness to adapt to new working methods.
