Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka hur och om personal vid kvinnojourer uppfattar att våldsutsatta kvinnor stigmatiseras trots att de inte bär skuld för det våld hon utsatts för samt undersöka konsekvenserna av stigmatiseringen. Studien bygger på fem kvalitativa intervjuer med personal på kvinnojourer i mellersta och norra Sverige och dessa har analyserats med hjälp av tematisk analys enligt Braun och Clarke (2006). Resultatet visar att stigma är återkommande hos våldsutsatta kvinnor som visar sig i form av skuld, skam, misstro och självisolering. Våldsutsatta kvinnor förväntas leva upp till en stereotypisk bild av ett idealt offer. Om mallen inte uppfylls riskerar de att inte få det stöd de behöver. Samhällets bemötande och brist på långsiktiga insatser försvårar kvinnornas återhämtningsprocess. Kvinnojourer visar sig spela en central roll i att motverka stigma genom att stödja kvinnorna, stärka deras självbild och vara en trygghet. Resultatet visar att stigma är ett socialt och strukturellt fenomen som kräver förändring

The purpose of this study is to investigate how and whether staff at women’s shelters perceive that women who have been subjected to violence are stigmatized even though they are not to blame for the violence they have been subjected to, and to investigate the consequences of stigmatization. The study is based on five qualitative interviews with staff at women’s shelters in central and northern Sweden and these have been analyzed using thematic analysis accordingto Braun and Clarke (2006). The results show that stigma is recurring theme among women who have been subjected to violence, which manifests itself in form of guilt, shame, mistrustand self-isolation. Battered women are expected to live up to a stereotypical image of an ideal victim. If the template is not met, they risk not receiving the support they need. The way society treats them and the lack of long-term interventions make the women’s recovery process more difficult. Women’s shelters appear to play a central role in combating stigma by supporting women, strengthening their self-image and providing security. The results show that stigma is a social and structural phenomenon that requires change.
