Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study was to examine how frequently teachers used social media in their religious education teaching, as well as what type of content they chose to present. The study was conducted through a digital survey targeting practicing teachers, with a total of 51 respondents. The collected data was analyzed using a phenomenographic analysis model, focusing on identifying variations in teachers’ perceptions. The results showed a range in how teachers perceived and used social media in educational contexts. The quantitative part of the survey indicated that most of the teachers did incorporate social media as part of their religious education teaching. Several respondents highlighted that social media could serve as a motivating tool and offer diverse representations of religion. At the same time, it was also emphasized that social media might act as a source of distraction and therefore required pedagogical guidance in order to be used effectively.
