Veterinary Social Work (VSW) : A Scoping Review of Literature in Sweden (English)
Abstract [en]

This scoping review aims to describe existing knowledge of Veterinary Social Work (VSW) in the context of Sweden, focusing on the four pillars; 1) Animal-Related Grief and Bereavement, 2) Compassion Fatigue and Conflict Management, 3) The Link between Human and Animal Violence, and 4) Animal-Assisted Interventions. Published and unpublished literature was identified and compiled through electronic databases and networks. Using a manifest content analysis, a total of 20 records were divided into one overall theme, four categories and nine sub-categories. Post-anthropocentrism and One Health have been used as theoretical framework. Findings describe human-animal bonds as the core in VSW, however, the four pillars are fragmentarily described in the Swedish context. Furthermore, researchers and practitioners lack education, knowledge and understanding of the human-animal bonds affections. The present study suggest implication for future research and practice to further explore the four pillars of VSW in the Swedish context.
