This study examines Swedish teachers’ perceptions of the Swedish subject. The Swedish teachers’ statements are studied through the lens and theoretical framework of Gert Biesta (2011) whose research within education can be discerned into three dimensions: Qualification, Socialization, and Subjectification. The study shows that there is a noticeable focus on the qualification dimension of teaching, but also how many of the teachers are trying to pursue the harder attained goals of socialization and subjectification, despite an increased emphasis on teaching more measurable abilities in the Swedish curriculum.
