Design for trust : A study of the impact of website heroes and headers on young digital creators' first impressions (English)
Abstract [en]

In today's digital landscape, a website's ability to immediately establish trust is crucial. This study investigates the first impression and the sense of trust and credibility conveyed by a webpage's hero and header section among young digital creators aged 18 to 25. By exposing 30 participants to three different prototypes created in Figma with varied designs (layout, color, typography, visual content, and degree of social proof), and collecting their insights via surveys, their perceptions of credibility and trust were analyzed. The results showed significant differences for color attractiveness and clarity of information, where prototypes A and C were judged as more visually appealing than B. However, no statistically significant differences emerged for most metrics. Overall, this indicates that while individual design elements can enhance visual appeal and information clarity, perceived credibility is shaped by a more holistic assessment. For the target audience, a more vibrant design seems to work well when contrast and structure are maintained, while social proof needs to be presented with care.

I dagens digitala landskap är webbplatsers förmåga att omedelbart etablera förtroende avgörande. I denna studie undersöks det första intrycket och känslan av tillit och trovärdighet på en webbsidas hero- och headersektion hos unga digitala kreatörer mellan 18 och 25 år. Genom att exponera 30 deltagare för tre olika prototyper gjorda i Figma med varierade design (layout, färg, typografi, visuellt innehåll och grad av sociala bevis) och samla deras insikter via enkäter analyserades trovärdighet och deras uppfattning kring tillit. Resultaten visade signifikanta skillnader för färgattraktivitet och tydlighet i informationen, där prototyp A och C bedömdes mer visuellt tilltalande än B. Däremot framkom inga statistiskt signifikanta skillnader för de flesta mätpunkter. Sammantaget indikerar detta att medan enskilda designelement kan lyfta visuell attraktionskraft och informationsklarhet, formas upplevd trovärdighet av en mer helhetsbedömning. För målgruppen tycks en mer livfull design fungera med bibehållen kontrast och struktur medan sociala bevis behöver presenteras med omsorg.
