Cultural terms are words linked to a specific culture, for example: spaghetti, kimono or paella. These terms tend to pose a translation problem for most professionals, especially when it comes to translation between two faraway cultures and languages. This study examines the official translation of food and clothes cultural terms in Cardcaptor Sakura by CLAMP and its sequel, Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card Arc, from Japanese into European Spanish. The aim is to find which translation techniques have been used for the translation of these cultural terms and if they are similar in spite of the 20-year gap between both series. The results show a similar usage of translations techniques in both series, with a higher tendency towards foreignizing translation techniques in its sequel. While both series rely mostly in cultural and descriptive equivalence or hypernymy, the sequel shows higher occurrence of transference.
