Abstract [sv]
Abstract [en]
This thesis is based on statements from the retail trade saying that higher education in this sector is needed and that the education level in the Swedish trading sector today is relatively low. In Sweden there are three relatively new educations in economy at the university level concentrated on retail trade. This thesis shows in how great extent students from these educations have a possibility to be employed as shop managers. One of the reasons for this inquiry is that we have studied retail at the university and are on the point of entering working life.
Through an inquiry with 19 of the biggest retail trade companies in Sweden we have got knowledge of their attitudes and behaviours in this matter. The result shows that the attitude of employing university educated persons is positive, but the behaviour is negative since personality and working experience are given higher priority. In other words the attitude disagrees with the behaviour. In view of this fact our conclusion shows that the attitude and behaviour in retail trade is negative to employing more university educated persons as shop managers. Higher education is in other words not important while employing shop managers.
This inquiry is not provided with sufficient statistics and does not represent the entire retail trade industry. Since the answers were unambiguous we can at the same time assume that the conclusion can represent if not the entire but at least a great part of the industry.
