“I want to play the pianoforte like that”: the impact of the travel letters for the reserve forgetfulness (reservglömskan)
In this article the research project ”The musical salon during the nineteenth century as pedagogical milieu” is presented and elaborated. This project strives to strengthen connections between the discipline of music pedagogy and the research field of education history. The project has been managed within the framework of “Worlds of the world heritage, Falu mine” (Världsarvets världar Falu gruva), Dalarna University. The purpose is to observe the bourgeois salon in its pedagogical role. After an introductory text, four publications will be explained. They are from between 2010-2015 and their meanings and conclusions will be summarized. The article finishes with a reflective discussion of the reserve forgetfulness (reservglömskan). Ricoeur’s historical epistemological focus in “Memory, History, Forgetfulness” (2005) constitutes a methodological foundation for the project and the article, exemplified by chosen impacts in a letter collection from 1828-1830 from the Royal Library in Stockholm.
