Religious education is an often discussed subject. The subject has undergone a major transformation since it was called was all about Christianity. The transformation from "kristendomskunskap" to religious education began in the early 1900s. Larger parts of society were involved in the debates about this. This study will investigate the discussions the transformation created, the influence from society and how the curriculum evolved. My presupposition, which has been confirmed by the study, is that the change in society did have an impact on the curriculum. The study shows how the subject was transformed, which changes in society contributed to the change of curriculum and what the reasons for change were. By analyzing literature and disquisitions it seems clear that some of the questions discussed in the early 1900’s are still under debate. The curriculum has adapted to some of the major changes in society.
