Muslimer på film har en lång historia fylld av stereotypa klichéer utifrån ett i huvudsak fientligt och fördomsfullt berättande. Det finns dock tecken på att filmskildringar bryter ny mark och skapar nya berättelser och förändrade bilder av muslimsk religiositet (Alhassen2018, Petersen 2021b, Axelson 2022). Det huvudsakliga intresset i följande kapitel ägnas åt ett antal filmer som lagt stor möda på att inte trampa på i en upplöjd fåra av islamfientlighet. I denna del behandlas filmer som Cecil B. DeMilles skildring av Mose liv i The Ten Commandments (1956), Ridley Scotts hantering av korsfarartiden i Kingdom of Heaven (2005), den mauretanska regissören Abderrahmane Sissako och hans berättelse om jihadismens inbrytande i Timbuktu (2014) och slutligen den svenske regissören Tarik Salehs uppmärksammade film Boy from Heaven (2022) om konflikter mellan sekulära och religiösa makteliter i dagens Egypten. Kapitlet syftar ytterst sett till att lyfta fram filmberättande som bidrar till nyansrikedom i skildringar av muslimsk tro på film, dvs, filmer som bidrar till det som journalisten och medieforskaren Maytha Alhassen kallar cultural change, “to challenge hegemonic cultural narratives and hopefully also change behavior” (2018; 45).

As a lecturer and scholar in the field of screenwriting, one may grow frustrated with the hegemony of classical dramaturgy, which lays like a wet blanket over the creative writing and carries imbedded patriarchal values which inevitably rub off on the content. This article will show that the story structure method reduces film writing to a mere narrative process without regard or humility for the multimodal qualities and capabilities of cinema to create sensual experiences for a participating audience. It will point out the risks of this alignment for cinema, making the film stories predictable but at the same time estranged from everyday life. Hence, the article will propose an alternative method to the screenplay template: cinematic world-building, based on artistic processes in a hermeneutic framework and a phenomenological approach to the experience of the film world, which transforms the viewer - from voyeur to co-creator. The purpose of the method is to give the screenwriting students a greater understanding of the abilities of the audio-visual elements - as units and as cooperating constellations - to build moods, content, themes and to develop their stories from cinematic spaces with alternative narrative structures. The article will display a trial of the first step of the method performed in a BA scriptwriter course with a very good reception from the students. Their work and their reflections on their writings and on the method are presented. Some shortcomings are discovered, but above all, the method is perceived to have good potential for further development.

Giving industrial sites new life requires enabling change and overcoming change resistance. By cross-fertilizing relevant managerial and urban development literature, this study develops a theoretical and analytical framework that integrates several factors that can lead to the sustainable transformation of post-industrial sites. Case evidence collected using qualitative methods at the Great Copper Mountain WHS, Sweden, reveals a Managerial innovation model of industrial heritage regeneration which fails to fully engage the surrounding communities. This model is associated with early-stage post-industrial heritage tourism. The resistance, controversy and community misperceptions hindering the adaptive reuse of the site's industrial heritage and urban surrounds are mainly determined by institutional norms arising from the industrial monoculture. Change management entails working to dismantle lock-ins and empower change at different levels.

Vad händer när en anställd förflyttats utanför lönearbetets gränser, det vill säga från att varai en anställning till att ofrivilligt bli av med arbetet? Vi närmar oss frågan genom att fokusera på arbetsförlusters individuella konsekvenser samt omställningsstödets betydelse för övergången till ny sysselsättning. Studien bygger på 28 semistrukturerade intervjuer med uppsagda inom hotellsektorn under Covid-19 pandemin, samt 18 intervjuer med chefer, representanter från omställningsorganisationer, arbetstagar- och arbetsgivarorganisationer. Analysen är pågående och resultat kommer att presenteras på konferensen.

De preliminära resultaten visar dock att uppsägningarna, i kombination med användning av korttidspermitteringar (inledningsvis i pandemin var även uppsagda under uppsägningstid korttidspermitterade inom hotellsektorn), bidrog till ett abrupt avslut av anställningen. Avslutet med få arbetsdagar under uppsägningstiden skapade en utmanande situation vilket medförde en snabb omställning till en vardag som arbetssökande. Konsekvenser som uppstod för de uppsagda inkluderade försämrad ekonomi, hälsa och välmående samt oro inför framtiden. Uppsägningarna upplevdes dock inte enbart negativt utan också, för vissa uppsagda, bidrog till möjligheter genom till exempel aktiv karriärplanering i form av utbildning eller nytt arbete. De uppsagdas ekonomiska situation och livssituation inverkade på hur konsekvenserna upplevts.

De preliminära resultaten visar också en diskrepans mellan objektiv och subjektiv kompetens där det externa stödet varit viktigt i att översätta kompetensen från en kontext till en annan vilket varit en bidragande faktor till att överbrygga friktionsarbetslöshet. Avslutningsvis indikerar resultaten olika typer av barriärer i tillgången till omställningsstödet som erbjudits via omställningsorganisationerna och hur stödet upplevts har skiljt sig åt mellan de uppsagda.

Proposal and OriginalityFood consumption in tourism is a key contributor to the tourism industry’s carbon footprint. Yet, empirically tested interventions aimed at nudging tourists towards more sustainable food choices are lacking. 

By conducting a field experiment in a restaurant at a major Swedish winter destination, we study how food service providers in tourism can boost the sustainable food choices of consumers via carbon labels. Our findings contribute to knowledge on the drivers of sustainable tourist behaviour. This has practical implications for providers aiming to trigger sustainable behaviour.

Methodology We ran two workshops with restaurant staff to design an intervention (CO2e labels) aimed at triggering sustainable food choices of consumers. A field experiment tested the intervention over 6 weeks using an A-B-A experimental design. In the analysis, 9 menu items and 1449 data cases were used.

Results and ImplicationsTheoretical implications concern the advancement of knowledge on the behavioural factors that drive sustainable food choices of tourists and the challenges and opportunities tourism providers face in facilitating more sustainable food choices. Practical implications concern new knowledge on the design of effective interventions and how these can reduce providers’ carbon footprint with sustained or increased profitability. Methodologically, we contribute with new understandings of field experiments designed in collaboration with restaurant managers and staff.

Research Limitations The study was conducted in only one restaurant. Other factors that might influence consumers’ food choices (price, taste, personal disposition etc) were not measured. 

In contemporary developed Western societies, structural discrimination often bars ethnic minorities from entering mainstream entrepreneurship and labor markets. Consequently, minorities engage in microentrepreneurship for economic survival and to retain their social identities. Yet despite the economic value of ethnic minority microbusinesses, little is known about the underlying forces that develop fundamental resources which shape their performance. Based on Bourdieu’s forms of capital and the resource-based view of the firm, our study presents a novel culture-induced entrepreneurship model. This model explains how ethnic minority culture shapes the development of human capital resources and how these resources contribute to business performance in communities which are often characterized as “left behind.” Our study challenges the dominant underdog discourse of (cultural) capital deficit among ethnic minority entrepreneurs. © 2023 The Author(s). Transportation sharing (e.g., car-sharing, freight-sharing, car-pooling, ridesharing) has received a lot of interest over the years. Despite the continued growth in transportation sharing, its potential in rural areas has not been fully explored. This paper provides a state-of-the-art review of the literature on sharing and transportation, particularly in rural areas. Based on findings from the literature, technological advancements, economic prospects, convenience, perceived environmental protection, the possibility to socialise, and avoidance of car ownership are some factors that have facilitated the growth of transportation sharing. Potential barriers to transportation-sharing in rural areas include poor regulation, poor network coverage and low, inconsistent demand due to few sprawled-out rural residents. Sharing in transportation has a great potential to provide sustainable solutions to transportation challenges in rural areas, as residents and visitors to these places overwhelmingly depend on car travel. Accordingly, transportation sharing could potentially reduce congestion, especially if car travel is combined with other modes (e.g., autonomous vehicles). 

In this article, we explore the production of socio-cultural values around blue-green solutions (BGS) through the perspective of care. We explore how values and preferences are formed through the complexity of everyday life engagements in a BGS environment. The data come from a questionnaire answered by 328 households in the neighborhood of Augustenborg in Malmö, Sweden. The questionnaire collects detailed information about inhabitants’ possible recreational use (through Likert scale questions) and willingness to pay (WTP) (estimated through contingent valuation). The study evaluates if and how people care to use, care to live with, and care to pay for BGS. The result shows that people in Augustenborg relate in different and sometimes contradictory ways to BGS. A well-used BGS environment does not per se make the environment successful or result in people preferring a BGS environment in the future. Building awareness about BGS seems to increase the willingness to pay, whereas recreational use seems to decrease it. The study reveals a landscape of care that is constantly being formed and transformed. This suggests that both planning and research needs to focus more on the relation between BGS and social use over time.

This special issue focusses on the transition of tourism in coastal communities to more resilient futures. A wide range of land- and marine tourism activities take place in coastal communities, and marine tourism, such as cruise tourism is often promoted as a way to develop the host communities and regional economies. Such communities are, however, particularly vulnerable to disturbances, unexpected shocks, and crises, such as climate change, depopulation, or pandemics. As well as identifying and developing desirable futures, communities need opportunities and activities, including tourism, that create economic value while sustaining livelihoods and restoring and preserving natural and social resources. Change practices, innovation, governance, and resilience are key themes and there is a need to critically rethink the connections between resilient communities and sustainable development in future.As the travel industry rebounds from the pandemic, it is expected that established coastal destinations will continue to grow and new destinations will emerge. While a great debate has emerged around the impacts of tourism on coastal communities and how to manage tourism development to ensure sustainability, we know relatively little about change practices of stakeholders directly affected by and involved in tourism development. Research has shown that, despite differences between communities, the way marine tourism activities are perceived by stakeholders, depends on the balance between different types of visitor segments (land-based, marine-based, organized, or individual travelers) and the development stage of the destination. There is a need for more knowledge on how communities develop change practices and innovate for sustainability and resilience as global anthropogenic transformations have made striving for sustainability more urgent and prominent. Consequently, understanding the environmental, economic, and socio-cultural impacts of tourism in coastal communities, is an important task that has recently been emphasized by several tourism researchers.

In this special issue we encourage an approach that invites many more actors than the tourism industries into a coastal tourism ontology, which allows for telling tourism not as a uni-dimensional ´tool´ for development or ´threat´ for nature and culture of coastal communities, but as a messy, distributed, and collaborative achievement and a process of making-with, becoming-with and thinking-with a much larger collective than the usual tourism stakeholders. By including many stories and identifying the ideological influences that are at work, we can ask whose interests are being served by a particular ideology.

This special issue is geared towards sharing research on the challenges and possibilities of tourism from the perspective of local communities in which it occurs. Academics so far only generated very few insights on how tourism communities are defining, governing, and implementing the principles of sustainability to prevent negative impacts, or to develop in a favorable direction. Consequently, there is a need to explore how local communities understand, engage with, and adapt to coastal tourism and sustainability, or even finding alternative paths to their future development. It therefore seems timely to examine the concepts of change practices, sustainability, resilience, innovation, and coastal community development at both organizational and community level. This call responds to the acknowledgement that tourism needs to be reoriented towards the public good, and that the types of tourism developed should be decided by the local community. We are therefore looking for voices from coastal tourism communities that discuss and imagine ways tourism can be developed to enable human, non-human and environmental wellbeing.

Accordingly, this call for papers seeks original and relevant conceptual and empirical papers on how coastal tourism activities offer opportunities and pose challenges for tourism and hospitality actors, communities, regions, and coastal environment and how these stakeholders adapt, change, and innovate accordingly. We would like to encourage a critical dialog regarding these aspects and engage in the discussions of possible futures for coastal regions, conserving the co-existing development of tourism and other economic sectors.

For this special issue we encourage submissions that that examine sustainability and resilience practices in the context of coastal, Arctic, and Nordic tourism and hospitality. Suggested research themes include but are not limited to:

• Tourism communities: resilience and sustainability• Mechanisms for promotion of the engagement of local stakeholders with coastal and/or marine tourism• Governance and management of marine tourism development• Innovation, knowledge and change management• Institutional entrepreneurship, social movement, and collective action of tourism stakeholders• Employment and labor markets in the context of coastal tourism and hospitality• Emerging, innovative or participatory research methods and methodologies• Community leadership and collaboration in tourism and across other economic sectors• Role of land-based tourism activities in the cruise tourism development: lessons learned and ways forward• Adaptations of coastal tourism development in the post pandemic era and risk management• Role of public and private sector collaboration in adaptations and crisis management in times of global pandemics

The need of being able to foster transformative learning (TL) has increased due to the demands for continuous development in today’s work life. Previous research has proposed six core elements to foster TL; however, in these a process perspective is missing. By using an adaptive approach and inspired by action research, drawing on teachers’ experiences, the aim of this article is to deepen the understanding of how teachers can create contextual preconditions to foster TL. The empirical data was based on teachers’ narratives, interviews with students, and observations from a university course. This article contributes by proposing a framework for contextual preconditions to foster TL by extending the six core elements with a recursive process and activity. To foster TL, the importance of continuously adapting the preconditions to the needs of each specific educational situation is emphasized.

Controversial issues are often regarded as abundant in history education. Most topicscan be regarded as controversial in one way or another. The purpose of this article is toanalyse the way history teachers in Swedish lower secondary schools relate controversialissues to a particular view of the nature of the subject of history. By analysing statementsfrom six teacher interviews which centred on the risks and opportunities associated withteaching about controversial issues, the authors were able to see a clear relation betweenviews on controversial issues and views on the nature of history as such. The teachers’reactions to the introduction of controversial issues, whether introduced by the teacheror by the students, was in many cases directly related to a specific view of the subject itselfand its epistemological nature.

In this short video – a prospective opening sequence to the theatrical documentary film "Deodar" – the researcher explores how the public screening of conceptual scenes from a work-in-progress film can help inform a film editor's still-evolving process of crafting a film's emotional tone, character introductions and themes. 

BACKGROUND

In the documentary film "Deodar", filmmaker Axel Grigor delves into the captivating story of Thomas Hellström, a Swedish boatbuilder who has spent over five decades restoring the historic sailing trawler, Deodar.

Constructed in 1911 in Brixham, England, Deodar has been meticulously revived by Hellström, transforming it into a familiar and beloved sight in the Stockholm archipelago.

Hellström's commitment to manifest the enduring beauty and sailing prowess of traditional English sailling trawlers through his efforts with Deodar, has seen him become one of Sweden's foremost wooden boatbuilders. However, his dogged dedication has come at a cost, straining personal relationships and causing financial hardship. At the age of 73 and faced with diminishing strength, Hellström grapples with the inevitable decision to part ways with the vessel that has defined his life.

Drawing inspiration from maritime documentary films, such as "The Last Sailors: The Final Days of Working Sail" (1984) and "The Sailor" (2021), this documentary uses observational filmmaking techniques and archive-based storytelling to skillfully explore the confluence of Swedish and English maritime history in the early 20th century through the lens of one man's extraordinary devotion to a vessel that has become both his masterpiece and his burden.

This conceptual opening sequence screened publically at the 2023 Dalarna Film Festival, Sweden, as part of a masterclass in film editing. The creative practice research project has received development funding from the regional film fund Film i Dalarna and Dalarna University.

The aim of this design project is to explore ways of co-designing instructional videos, together with representatives from the elderly care sector, that show how to use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) related to the Covid-19 pandemic and how to follow basic hygiene routines. We have used Design Thinking (DT) and Research through design (RtD) methodology. The results show that the main improvements derived from using a co-design process were input on the details needed to make the video more realistic and reflective of real-world scenarios.

Extreme right-wing violence has resulted in an intense academic debate on how democratic actors can respond to movement on the extreme right. This article explores how various types of CSOs perceive their role, interest, and willingness when it comes to counteracting right-wing extremism. Building on a theoretical framework that makes visible a variety of CSO responses and differences between types of CSOs, the results show that CSOs view themselves as having a watchdog role in relation to right-wing extremism. However, CSOs place the principal responsibility of response to right-wing extremism outside organized civil society in the hands of politicians, citizens, and the media. In addition, not all CSOs are willing to respond in the same way or to the same extent. Humanitarian and social service organizations are more inclined to engage in dialogue and protest compared with sports and recreation organizations and culture organizations. The article concludes by discussing the notion that bridging organizations may be more willing to respond to right-wing extremism and to use dialogue and deliberation compared to bonding organizations.

Nuestra propuesta se centra en el tratamiento para personas que se encuentran en proceso de resocialización, experimentando una transformación y buscando un cambio duradero en la forma de manejar sus pensamientos y emociones. El concepto clave es la empatía del origen, desarrollada empíricamente en el trabajo de Ajovec y respaldada teóricamente por los estudios de Deldén y Jansson, entre otros. El concepto tiene su origen en el trabajo de Liam Girmarland, basado en las experiencias durante los años de su trabajo social tanto en Colombia y como en Suecia. 

La resocialización implica encontrar formas de reconstruir la percepción de sí mismo de las personas, donde la percepción anterior se basaba en la comunicación violenta, cargada de vergüenza y orgullo. A través del reconocimiento auténtico de las historias personales y del trabajo con la empatía dirigida tanto hacia las posibles víctimas de las acciones de la persona como hacia la propia persona, se puede lograr la transformación. En este proceso, es fundamental la oportunidad de reintegrarse a la sociedad, como se evidencia en la labor realizada por Ajovec en su finca cafetera. Se trata de adoptar roles constructivos y saludables, rompiendo con los roles destructivos.

En nuestra presentación, describimos el trasfondo práctico y teórico del concepto de empatía del origen. Lo relacionamos con un modelo de tratamiento desarrollado por Jansson y Saxonberg (2013/2023), que aborda el trabajo emocional en la práctica del trabajo social. El enfoque principal de la presentación son los procesos de transformación en el trabajo de resocialización con adultos jóvenes que se encuentran en riesgo de incurrir en la delincuencia o ya están involucrados en ella.

This paper investigates chain hotel employees in Sweden and their ability to work against sex trafficking. Using ten semi-structured interviews, the research asks questions about employee's relationships with external stakeholders (the police, booking channels, non-profit organizations, and competitors) and macroenvironmental factors (political and legal factors, economic, socio-cultural and health). The findings highlight that lack of communication, cooperation and autonomy hinder chain hotel employee's ability to recognize and prevent sex trafficking. The paper concludes by emphasizing the need for better interdisciplinary engagement to help eliminate sex trafficking within the tourism and hospitality industries and reiterates the call for actionable outcomes that empower chain hotel employees to work with external stakeholders to find viable solutions to help stop sex trafficking.

There are many expectations on Higher Education Institutions (HEI:s) from a range of other actors and organizations to involve and engage in systematic regional innovation and development. Likewise, attempts to achieve such involvement and engagement are many, but success is varied. This paper analyzes the consequences of multifaceted expectations on HEI:s from regional actors, for the involvement and engagement of academics in systematic innovation. Issues of conflict are discovered that constitute obstacles for collaboration. The aim of this study is to highlight disagreements regarding the university’s role in (regional) innovation systems in order to help solve such issues. Theoretically, we approach innovation systems as social systems, and consider systems as subjects of design. Empirically, we have collected policy documents (including figures), interviews, and workshop discussions between representatives for local and regional public administration, intermediary organizations, the university, as well as others, from four Swedish regions. We conclude by providing a set of considerations possible for use when designing the role of the university in an innovation system, thus facilitating a broader and deeper involvement and engagement of academics in innovation processes, or the support of such processes.

In this presentation, I will address a glitch that has been largely overlooked in the study of religious cognition; namely cross-generational differences in the attribution of non-ordinary powers. Contemporary popular culture is permeated by magical and occult narratives, and Christopher Partridge argues that such ”occulture” has become ordinary among younger generations. While occult narratives may not be labelled as spiritual or religious, they yet appear to function as existential anchors in secularized contexts. Empirical examples are provided from a study on supernatural and parasocial relations among young adults on the autism spectrum, who are using the term ”supernatural” to make sense of anomalous experiences. Such experiences moreover seem to provide a path towards non-empirical beliefs in a sample that grew up highly secularized Sweden. 

Governance and complexity have increasingly become subjects of interest within research on sustainable tourism. Governance has been marked by a turn to more corporatist and networked policymaking structures. At the same time, the use of the concept of complexity in research on tourism destinations and governance is gaining momentum in an effort to address the links in increasingly networked systems as well as the interrelatedness of the multiple features of a tourist destination. Meanwhile, resilience has emerged as a new buzzword in research on sustainable development and governance which denotes the ability of a destination to cope with and adapt to change. This article reviews the literature on destination governance to identify critical issues and trends and discusses the relevance of complexity approaches. Evolutionary studies and research on resilience in a sustainability context are becoming part of this discussion. The review sheds light on the limitations and merits of each of these concepts, as well as on their nexus. The article concludes with some key areas for future research on destination governance. The aim of the review is to contribute to conceptual clarity and to advance the application of complexity approaches in research on destination governance.

The funding of recreational trails in publicly accessible nature areas is a prevailing challenge for the development of tourism destinations. In some cases, mandatory fees are neither ideologically nor legally supported, meaning that local stakeholders are reliant on the voluntary contributions of trail users. In light of the motivational barriers and uncertainties that hinder recreationists from donating, we tested behaviourally informed interventions to enhance cooperation in such settings. Specifically, we examined the effect of normative social cues on the share and amount of donations for mountain biking trails by conducting a field experiment in a rural destination in Sweden. Consistent with our predictions and previous studies, we found an increase in both the donation amount and share of donators after the intervention. Additionally, our research shows that the change in behaviour seems to be related to the belief about the donation behaviour of others, which can easily be targeted in policies. These findings imply that voluntary contribution schemes enhanced with normative messages can provide effective funding strategies for recreational nature-based trails. The importance of developing these strategies with regard to the local context is highlighted. Management implications: • Mountain bikers are, to a large extent, willing to contribute financially to the upkeep of trails through donations. Proving information about previous contributions and framing techniques to highlight this norm can further increase the share of contributions. • Contributions of approximately SEK100–120 (€9–11) per visit seem to be the norm for mountain bikers in Rörbäcksnäs. • Stakeholders involved in the management of recreational trails might benefit from making more effort to raise awareness about the possibilities to donate, for example through more channels and displays, and by testing different placements and designs. © 2023 The Authors

Waste management policies aim to divert waste from lower positions on the waste hierarchy such as landfill and incineration to higher positions in the hierarchy such as energy recovery and recycling. However, empirical evaluations of such policies are scarce. This study highlighted the effect of waste management policies on the amount of waste treated with landfill, incineration, energy recovery and recycling by analysing a panel dataset consisting of 14 European countries and the period 1996 to 2018. Findings from a seemingly unrelated regression model suggest that the landfill ban is associated with a decrease in landfill waste, but an increase in incineration, energy recovery and recycling waste. The landfill tax is also correlated with an increase in energy recovery waste but, in contrast, it is associated with a reduction in incineration and recycling waste. Meanwhile, the deposit refund scheme is associated with a decrease in the amount of landfill waste. Concerning the effects on total waste generated, regression results from a fixed effects model indicate that the landfill tax and the deposit refund scheme are both correlated with a reduction in the amount of waste generated. These findings contribute to the scarce academic literature evaluating waste management policies and may better inform policy makers on their longer-term implications.

We explored and found that a set of key resources, that we call human capital resources, play an important role in ethnic minority microbusinesses in an ethnic majority social and economic space. We have also found that these key resources are developed and maintained within the coethnic niche economic space shaped by coethnic cultural value systems. Building on qualitative interview data and drawing on Bourdieu’s forms of capital and the resource-based view of the firm, our study presents a novel microentrepreneurship model that we call the culture-induced entrepreneurship model. Overall, our model provides insights into how ethnic minority culture informs the creation of a set of human capital resources and how these key resources contribute to business performance in regional ethnic minority microbusinesses. Svenska Historikermötet i Umeå 14–16 juni 2023

Titel: Högskolan Dalarna och folkskoleseminariets historia – Perspektiv på lärarutbildningen i Falun, ca 1875–1970

Den som har inflytande över utformandet av en lärarutbildning och blivande lärares kunskapssyn, kan också komma att påverka framtida generationers sätt att se på samhället och världen (Hartman 2012, Bejerot & Hasselbladh 2020). Vid folkskoleseminariet i Falun bedrevs lärarutbildning från etablerandet 1875 fram till det att verksamheten succesivt övergick i lärarhögskolans regi 1968–70.  I en mening sammanfaller dessa nära på hundra år av lärarutbildning därmed också med framväxten av det moderna Sverige.

I antologiprojektet ’Högskolan Dalarna och folkskoleseminariets historia’ riktas fokus mot en rad tidigare outforskade aspekter av hur seminarietraditionen, i ett specifikt lokalsamhälle, etableras och förändras under olika tidsperioder. Enligt tidigare forskning hade den 1842 inrättade folkskolan uppgiften att legitimera ett traditionellt, religiöst och auktoritärt samhällssystem (Petterson 1993, Lundahl 2005). Längre fram i tiden, inte minst från sekelskiftet 1900 och framåt, kom folkskolan dock att alltmer betraktas som ett centralt redskap i det moderna samhällets utvecklande av medborgares agens, kvinnlig frigörelse och samhällsutveckling (Linne 1996). Under femton år med start 1864 etablerades i Sverige fem folkskoleseminarier för kvinnor. Först ut var Stockholm och Skara som 1864 ombildades från att utbilda män till att utbilda kvinnor. Därefter etablerades folkskollärarinneseminarier i både Falun och Kalmar år 1875 och fyra år senare följde ett femte i Umeå (Sörensen 1942). Seminarieetableringarna i Falun och övriga orter innebar en ökning i andelen kvinnliga lärare under slutet av 1800-talet och i förlängningen kom den patriarkala skolordningen att utmanas (Florin 1987).

Beslutet den 30 april 1875 att anlägga ett folkskoleseminarium i Falun, säger något om behovet av lärare på den svenska landsbygden, men också något om Faluns historiska bakgrund som lärdomsstad (Claesson 2015, Liljas 2019:2021, Ödman 1995). Möjligen finns också lokala och aktörsburna förklaringar till den utpräglat progressiva profil som med tiden kom att växa fram vid folkskoleseminariet i Falun (Linné 1996:2006). I projektets delstudier görs exempel på pregnanta avsteg från folkskolans normer av framträdande lärarutbildare som Valborg Olander och Anna Sörensen. Med utgångspunkt i ett mycket rikt arkivmaterial blir det också möjligt att följa hur de och andra lärarutbildare i valet av uppgifter och utformningen av textnära kommentarer söker påverka de blivande lärarinnorna i deras sätt att se på kunskap, undervisning och lärarskap. Utifrån än mer kritiskt orienterade perspektiv på verksamheten granskas också urvalsprinciperna för rekryteringen av nya lärarinnor och interkulturella aspekter av den faktiska verksamheten.

Genom dessa nedslag berörs därmed också hur professionaliseringen av läraryrket tar form i relation till ett bildningsanspråk - vilket ofta tycks gravitera mot medborgerliga och könsutjämnande principer. Under den föreslagna sessionen till historikermötet i Umeå presenteras fem av dessa bidrag:

Juvas Marianne Liljas presentation fokuserar på Valborg Olanders (1861-1943) reformerande insatser vid folkskoleseminariet i Falun och har titeln ’’’Det varma hjärtat”: Valborg Olanders pedagogiska arv i Faluseminariets historia’.

I presentationen ’Folkskolelärarinneseminarier i Sverige: en jämförelse mellan Falun och Umeå, 1875–1915’ intar Emil Marklund en komparativ ansats. Folkskollärarinneseminariet i Umeå grundades 1879, blott fyra år efter seminariet i Falun. 

Utifrån rubriken ’Kunskaps- och undervisningsideal i förändring: Pedagogiska examensuppsatser vid Falu folkskoleseminarium 1915–1937’ analyserar Anders Persson de skriftliga kommentarer som dåtidens lärarutbildare lämnar på de blivande lärarinnornas texter.

I ´En lärare blir till. Om ideal och normer för blivande lärare på folkskollärarseminariet i Falun år 1876–1909´presenterar Ulrika Norburg exempel på hur rekryteringsprocessen av blivande lärarinnor vid seminariet gick till.

Anders Blomqvist presentation ’Perspektiv på seminariet i krigs- och brytningstider 1940–1960:  genus, klass och etnicitet’ fokuserar på erfarenheter från Faluseminariet under tiden för Andra världskriget och efterföljande år.

Syftet med denna studie är att fördjupa förståelsen för överskuldsatta personers sätt att beskriva orsakerna till uppkomsten av deras skulder och till den roll de och andra spelade i uppkomsten av den problematiska situationen, i sin skriftliga kommunikation med myndigheter med inflytande över skuldsaneringsprocessen. Metoden genomfördes med hjälp av en kvalitativ multipel fallstudiedesign med ett målinriktat, tvärsnittsurval bestående av personliga brev bifogade skuldsaneringsansökningar till den svenska Kronofogdemyndigheten. Resultaten påvisar tre huvudsakliga sätt som de sökande presenterar sitt ärende på. I den första, Att tillskriva sig själv ansvar, hänvisar de sökande till sina egna handlingar i relation till skuldernas uppkomst på ett sätt som framställer dem som moraliskt värdiga personer. Det andra sättet att presentera sig själv är att Ge problemet egen agens. Det tredje och sista sättet är att Tillskriva andra ansvar.

Implementation of “salience” in music analysis assignments

In music production educational programmes, there is usually a music analysis shaped hole in the repertoire of teaching material. This is in contrast to the great supply of teaching material on the music industry, social practices, music technology, studio practices and the like. This is partly explicable by the challenges music recordings pose on music analysis. Music recordings, or works of phonography, are dominated by musical properties that fall outside of the score, where music analysis traditionally operates.

There are many events happening simultaneously in all music. The question of which of these events (are intended) to draw our attention the most is a question of musical foreground and background. The mechanisms that affects what in music is perceived to be in the foreground vs. background is complex and relates both to musical structure, musical cognition, and more importantly how these two meet.

The above-mentioned foreground/background relation is a question of salience. My PhD work-in-progress studies salience in works of phonography to discuss which musical properties or events are the most 24functional, or account for the coherence, in these works. Studying salience in these works is put forward as a possible method to tackle the aforementioned challenge of analyzing works of phonography.

As a part my study on salience in works of phonography, I conduct an assignment in a music production educational programme, where students write about what they hear in the “foreground” in works of phonography. This is an implementation of salience as an analysis tool. In this conference, I will present the preliminary results of this part of my PhD-thesis in progress.

This paper describes the effect on the listeners' experience of headphone listening to a music composition including inner-city sound while being in an inner-city environment, using a research through design approach. The study focuses on the listeners' described experiences through the lens of Berleant's aesthetic sensibility and Bull's phenomenon of the auditory bubble. We produce a composition which participants listen to in an urban context and discuss the two main themes found, soundtrack and awareness, together with the indications of the possibility to direct listeners' attention and level of immersion by including inner-city ambience and sound in music when listening with headphones in an urban environment. © 2023 Owner/Author.

This explorative article aims to take a step in the direction of a realist-oriented scientific design that extends our knowledge of the requirements of a methodology that improves our ability to uncover the causal mechanisms behind men's violence against women. Despite the great advances that have been made in individual research disciplines, our understanding of the complex causes is still insufficient and suffers from our inability to grasp the larger whole of the collaborative processes. As a first step towards the objective, an integration attempt is implemented that aims to highlight methodological issues that we have to overcome to explain men’s violence against women. The integration of psychological, social-psychological, and sociological theories aims to exemplify how contributing, and counteracting factors interact with each other and form a complex mechanism that influences whether violence against women will take place or not. To leave room for the methodological dimension, the depth of each perspective has been reduced. The results of the integration attempt show both opportunities and difficulties in investigating the mechanisms behind men's violence against women. However, there is still untapped knowledge potential in the explorative integration of theories and the use of realist-oriented pluralistic research methodologies.

Under en vecka i augusti 2022 reste vi en grupp lärare och lärarstudenter från Högskolan Dalarna till Jerusalem, den stad som är en helig plats för tre av världens stora religioner: kristendom, judendom och islam och utgjort centrum för återkommande politiska konflikter. Det här är en bok om berättelsers kraft att forma och omforma människors liv.

Vi visste från våra tidigare studier att berättelser har en unik potential att skapa identiteter, världsbilder, moraliska övertygelser och människors syn på varandra. När vi nu samlades i Jerusalem bar var och en av oss med sin egen berättelse om och relation till staden. Dessa bilder var något som vi alla var beredda att sätta på spel. Genom att gå på besök i andras berättelser tillät vi oss att erfara hur livet i staden framträder ur skiftande perspektiv. Vi utvecklade en alltmer mångfasetterad, motstridig men också nyanserad bild av platsen och dess människor.

I denna essäsamling framträder tio olika bilder av den resa som vi företog tillsammans. Vi rör oss mellan bilder från gatulivet i Jerusalem, möten med armenisk-kristna palestinier, unga israeler som tagit avstånd från att tjänstgöra i armén och berättelser om de judiska kvarteren. Här finns reflektioner från besök vid stadens heliga platser och om att stå framför den mur som reser sig som en grå betongvägg vid infarten från Jerusalem till Betlehem. Genom dessa berättelser vill vi dela med oss av våra skiftande erfarenheter som vi menar kan bidra till en mångfasetterad undervisning i religion och historia.

Skolval arrangeras regelbundet på Sveriges gymnasie- och högstadieskolor för att ge elever möjlighet att ta ställning till, och rösta på ett politiskt parti. Syftet är att stärka elevers delaktighet i demokratin till exempel genom att motivera elever att lära sig mer om partier och politik, och att stärka ett aktivt medborgarskap. Men vilken betydelse har deltagande i skolval för elevers delaktighet i demokratin? Den här policy briefen redovisar resultat från en analys av i vilken mån deltagande i skolval bidrar till att främja ungas förutsättningar att delta i demokratin. Policy briefen är skriven av Erik Lundberg, docent i statsvetenskap vid Högskolan Dalarna i samarbete med Hanna Lundin, mastersstudent i internationell och jämförande utbildning vid Stockholms universitet. Resultaten baseras på den utvärdering av Skolval 2022 som har genomförts av Myndigheten för ungdoms- och civilsamhällesfrågor (MUCF).

Existing research has found heterogeneity in the implementation of Lean and its outcomes in terms of employee involvement across countries. This article explores the potential role of labour–management relations. It relies on in-depth company case studies carried out in the aerospace industry in France and Sweden. The study finds significant variations in employee involvement – higher in the Swedish than in the French cases. Managerial orientations did play a role, as the ‘technocratic’ form of Lean in France echoed a more unilateral top-down conception of management, while Swedish managers appeared more receptive to the ‘involvement-enhancing’ paradigm. But the attitudes and behaviours of unions were also a crucial factor, as Swedish unions were very effective in impinging on the implementation of Lean at workplace level, while their French counterparts, often divided, adopted a more defensive stance, lacking expertise and implication in the promotion of high-involvement work organisations.

Denna studie fokuserar på de lokala partsrelationernas betydelse för utvecklingen av den organisatoriska flexibiliteten under en större hotellkoncerns omställningar under covid-19-krisen 2020–2021. Studien bygger på 26 semistrukturerade intervjuer med representanter för arbetsgivarorganisationer och fackliga organisationer på branschnivå, samt chefer och fackliga företrädare på koncern- och hotellnivå. Intervjuerna transkriberades och tematiserades med hjälp av NVivo 12. I ljuset av en dramatisk nedgång i kundunderlaget mer än halverades antalet anställda: tillsvidareanställda sades upp och kontrakten för tillfälligt anställda blev inte förlängda. Vid sidan av ”tillfälligt anställda” tillkom en ny form av numerisk flexibilitet, korttidspermitterade, baserad på lagen om stöd vid korttidsarbete från 2013. Samtidigt genomfördes omfattande organisationsförändringar: avdelningar slogs samman, antalet chefer reducerades och i stort sett samtliga yrkestitlar förändrades. Anställda skulle arbeta i ”service team”, chefer skulle vara ”service lead” och andra, t ex receptionister, kockar, bartenders och städare, skulle tituleras ”hosts”. De fackliga organisationerna menade att denna form av funktionell flexibilitet, att ”alla skulle kunna allt”, ledde till ett allt stressigare jobb och var ett hot mot yrkesstoltheten. 

I syfte att analysera de lokala partsrelationernas betydelse för utvecklingen av den organisatoriska flexibiliteten tar vi avstamp i tidigare forskning om lokala partsrelationer. Den tidigare forskningen har till stor del handlat om parternas förhållningssätt till varandra när de arbetat för att nå lösningar och resultat i olika avseenden, hur intressen och maktresurser mobiliseras, förhandlingsstrategier och den fackliga organiseringens betydelse för den fackliga styrkan. Det finns begränsat med forskning om de lokala partsrelationers roll när det gäller organisationsförändringar med bäring på organisatorisk flexibilitet. I den här artikeln fokuserar vi på de lokala parternas betydelse för utvecklingen av den organisatoriska flexibiliteten med hänsyn tagen till de institutionella förutsättningar som rådde under pandemin

Tidigare studier av bedömning i historia och samhällskunskap i den svenska skolan har företrädelsevis handlat om vad lärare bedömer, eller vad elever presterar (Berg & Persson, 2020). I den här artikeln är syftet istället att undersöka hur olika förståelser av dessa båda skolämnens elev-emancipatoriska potential aktualiserar olika typer av ut­maningar och möjligheter i lärares bedömningsuppdrag. Datainsamlingen bygger på åtta timmeslånga intervjuer med lärare som undervisar på gymnasiet i ett mellansvenskt län.

Diskussionen om vad som skapar förutsättningar för en ny generation att förstå och kanske förändra sin egen och andras situation framstår ofta som polemisk. Medan vissa betonat betydelsen av vilken (redan etablerad) kunskap som förmedlas (jfr Young, 2013), har andra framhållit värdet av att låta undervisningen utgå från den enskilde elevens eller samhällsgruppens unikt situerade intressen, frågor och behov (jfr t.ex. De Lissovoy, 2010; Tur Porres et al., 2014).

I de åtta lärarsamtalen framträder denna avvägning mellan det på förhand givna och det situerade, emellertid i mindre grad som ett antingen/eller. I den lärarprofessionella bedömningspraktiken tycks avpassningen snarare ta dialektisk form i mötet mellan ämnesinnehåll och elev. Samme lärare kan både ge uttryck för anspråk som aktiverar utmaningar förknippade med förutsägbarhet, och rymma skildringar av en strävan att låta bedömningsprocessen bli så öppen som möjlig (jfr Biesta, 2009). Det sätt som eleven visar sig och träder fram i ämnet tycks sätta avtryck i, men är inte ensamt av­görande för, frågan om vad undervisningen ges för innehåll.

This article explores contrary tendencies in the missionary sources of the two major Swedish Lutheran missions operating in Africa from around the 1890s to the 1930s: the Swedish Evangelical Mission (SEM) in Eritrea-Ethiopia beginning in 1865 and the Church of Sweden Mission (CSM), from the early 1870s in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The attempt is to shed light on the distinctiveness, the scope and the categorization of different materials and how social and political tendencies are seen in the archival sources. Originating from the Swedish 19th century popular mobilization from below, the SEM was a vehicle for egalitarian ideals and the modernization of society, manifest in its educational endeavours in Eritrea-Ethiopia, but also in a criticism of local, traditional Ethiopian society. The CSM, on the other hand, representing a romanticist-inspired, nationalist folk church movement, had rather been formed against the forces of modernity. In KwaZulu-Natal, the missionaries encouraged Zulu history, culture, ethnic and national unity in the face of an aggressive colonialism and capitalism. The two missions shared the Swedish Lutheran background, but the divergent tendencies of the sources indicate that social and political background overruled both national and confessional belonging as well as the different contexts of their mission fields respectively.
